Two Recent Shoreline Fires Ruled Arson

Police believe recent fires at Sears and a residential group home were intentionally set but do not consider them to be related.

Fire investigators from the King County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) are investigating two recent Shoreline fires that have been ruled arson.

KCSO Detective Jason Stanley confirmed that investigators have determined Saturday's blaze at a residential group home and another fire at Sears last Thursday were both "intentionally set" and are now being investigated as arsons.

Police do not believe the fires are related, Stanley said, but added: “It’s an open, active investigation.” No major injuries were reported in either blaze.

Saturday's fire took place at a group home near the intersection of North 165th Street and Fremont Avenue North at around 8:30 p.m. Everyone inside got out safely, but the building was severely damaged, according to the Shoreline Fire Department Facebook page.

The Sears fire broke out in the linens section during store hours on July 18, according to officials. The building was evacuated without any injuries, but significant damage was reported.

The store has since re-opened to customers.
