Shoreline Firefighters to Compete in 2012 Scott Firefighter Climb at Columbia Center

Firefighter climb raises money for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

This Sunday March 11,  firefighters from Shoreline Fire will race up 69 floors of the Columbia Center in downtown Seattle to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  The annual Scott Firefighter Stair Climb features firefighters from all over the world as they climb 1,311 steps in full bunker gear. Shoreline firefighters also volunteer their time to coordinate the hundreds of firefighters, as they have every year since it began.    Shoreline Firefighter David Engler is credited with creating the popular competition 21 years ago – when he first donned bunker gear and air tanks and climbed with hundreds of civilians. Shoreline Firefighters Riding Cross Country to Remember Those Lost on Sept. 11, 2001

343 firefighters were killed that day

Shoreline is nearly 3,000 miles from New York City, but two Shoreline firefighters, Bryan Gibb and Todd Johnston are riding motorcycles cross country to New York to commemorate the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks that killed 343 of their brethren. The group from the Seattle area left Sept. 2, from the Tacoma Fallen Firefighters Memorial. Gibb and Johnston ride Road King firefighter edition bikes that are specifically designed and made for firefighters. The riders will need a week to cross the country. Along the way, they will become part of an estimated caravan of 5,000 motorcycle-riding firefighters from across the U.S. and Canada. They’ll sleep, eat and ride together, the firefighter way.
