Shoreline School Board Voting Tonight on Shorecrest iPad Program

Total cost to implement iPads: $745,488

The Shoreline School Board will decide at its 7 p.m. meeting tonight whether it will vote to approve an iPad program for Shorecrest High School for the 2012-13 school year. Tonight's agenda includes many other items, but the iPad vote is expected to be one of the highlights of the meeting. Students at Shorewood High School were given iPads at the start of this school year. The program has had its ups and downs--difficulty typing on the keypad and theft have been problems--but overall the district believes it's been a success. The cost of the Shorecrest implementation is estimated at $745,488. A majority of the Board is expected to approve the program.

Thank you for the article as I could not attend. I want to share my past experience as an involved parent in the school district when we first talked about the value of technology as an educational tool for our students. I was on the district advisory's technology subcommittee years ago. I brought my experience of having my eldest finish her K-12 education at a Jesuit-based private high school. I…   more ›

UPDATE: Shoreline School Board Passes $89.6 Million Budget for 2011-12

Reserves tapped to keep K-4 class sizes low

Editor's note: Correction regarding the levy amounts and cost. See below. The Shoreline School Board of Directors unanimously passed the district's budget for the 2011-12 school year Monday night, Aug. 29, electing to tap some of its reserves to shore up K-4 class sizes. The $89,632,765 general fund budget supplies funds for the day-to-day operation the school district and its programs and runs from Sept. 1, 2011 to Aug. 31, 2012.
