Bring event flyer or show proof of residency
The city of Shoreline's free Recycle Fest event will start at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 19 at the Shoreline Park & Ride Aurora Ave N at 192nd. At Recycle Fest, you can recycle many items that aren't accepted in your recycle bin. Items such as Styrofoam, bicycles and concrete will be accepted, and a full list of items accepted will be mailed out to all residents closer to the event date. No garbage or yard waste accepted. Recycle Fest will be free for all Shoreline residents. Proof of residency will be required. Note that only pick-up trucks or smaller vehicles will be allowed to enter. A 16-year-old boy was arrested after he pointed a gun at a male and demanded money
A 16-year-old boy was arrested in Shoreline for pointing a gun at a man and attempting to rob him in the 300 block of N.E. 158th St. in Shoreline Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred about 3:40 p.m. on Wednesday and police were called about 10 minutes later, said Captain Scott Strathy of the Shoreline Police Department. The suspect allegedly pulled a small-caliber gun out of his right pants pocket and demanded that the victim give him money. The victim said no, a brief struggle ensued and the victim got away. When police arrived the hood was up on the suspect's vehicle and he was with another person. Police advised the two individuals of their rights and both denied they had a gun. May 9 DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: Some people had a verbal argument that turned bad in the 900 block of N 196th Street. In addition to the verbal argument there were things broken in the house and car. VANDALISM AT HIGHLINE ICE ARENA: Someone smashed a window and left before they were seen. This happened at 18005 Aurora Ave N. LARCENY AT CAFFE APPASSIONATO: Someone stole cash (greater than $250) from the store till overnight from a store safe at 15505 Westminster. The Caffe Appassionato office is located upstairs above Central Market. DEATH INVESTIGATION at FRED MEYER: Someone collapsed outside the Fred Meyer at 18325 Aurora Ave North. The person is given CPR but that failed to revive the person. The police believe that it was a natural …

A 17-year-girl was shot and killed and an 18-year-old boy was critically wounded after a shooting in Shoreline shortly after midnight. Police said they were shot along 300 block Richmond Beach Road and Dayton Avenue North outside the Maple Wood West Apartments. After the shooting, the two victims fled in a car. One of the victims reported the shooting as they drove away. Deputies stopped the car on Aurora Avenue and 185th Street and the victims were taken to Harborview Medical Center. Doreen Starrish triggered Amber Alert when she stabbed ex-boyfriend and took their two daughters
King County prosecutors this morning charged Doreen Starrish with Murder, Second Degree, for the stabbing her ex-boyfriend in the chest Thursday, May 3 at his Shoreline residence. Starrish, 28, was originally charged with Assault First Degree for stabbing Aaron Smith after an argument at his residence on NE 190th Street in Shoreline. Smith, 27, later died from his injuries. Starrish was arraigned this morning and pleaded not guilty. A case setting hearing is scheduled for June 14 at 1 p.m. in courtroom 1201 at the King County Courthouse. The defendant remains in jail on $1 million bail. Starrish has an extensive police record, including drug offenses and assault, KOMO-TV reported. Ramp captain Joseph Irons, of Irons Brothers Construction, and his team will construct a free wheelchair access ramp for Jan Lunak of Shoreline, who has multiple sclerosis. This Saturday, May 19, 2012, the Lunak family along with 14 other families throughout King and Snohomish Counties will be the recipients of a free wheel chair ramp built as part of the Master Builders Care Foundation’s Rampathon Event. Jan Lunak, a retired mother with MS wrote into the Rampathon committee this year requesting help for herself and her family. “I cannot take my power wheelchair outside and even have to carry my walker down the steps,” stated Jan in her application. Council also proclaiming May 28-June 1 Armed Services Appreciation Week
The Shoreline City Council meets tonight at 7 p.m. at Shoreline City Hall. On the agenda tonight is discussion of the city's framework goals for the Light Rail project, formerly known as the North Corridor Transit Project, and now known as the Lynnwood Link Extension. Early in the planning process, Sound Transit needed a project name that encompassed several modes of transit considered in the Alternatives Analysis phase. Now that light rail has been confirmed as the best transit mode to serve the Interstate 5 corridor between Northgate and Lynnwood, the new name appropriately includes Link light rail and the new line's end point. City Manager Julie Underwood has selected Shawn Ledford of the King County Sheriff’s Office to be the City’s new police chief. Ledford replaces Dan Pingrey who has been promoted to Chief of the Patrol Operations Division of the King County Sheriff’s Office after four years as chief. Ledford has been with the King County Sheriff’s Office for 23 years, with his most recent position being Zone Commander of the Patrol Operations Division. Before that, Ledford was the Acting Division Chief for the Criminal Investigation Division. From 2001 to 2006, Ledford was the Police Chief for the City of Newcastle where he focused on improving community policing efforts and citizen engagement.
