It's prom season and that often means fancy dresses, tuxedos, corsages, boutonnieres, a nice dinner out downtown or on the waterfront, a rented limousine with friends, and of course the dance itself.  Shorewood's prom is this Saturday from 9 p.m. to midnight at Inglewood Golf Club in Kenmore after the hard work of many to put it together.  Patch encourages students to post their prom photos and videos on this article. King's Hires New Volleyball Coach

Jeff Fransen replaces Steve Bain who led Knights to two 1A state titles

King’s High School has hired Jeff Fransen to the position of head volleyball coach. Joining King’s, Fransen inherits one of the state’s most successful high school volleyball programs. King’s holds state championship titles for 2008 and 2009, with a second place finish in 2010, and a third place finish in 2011. Coach Fransen is well-known in King’s athletics and the King’s community, as both of his children are students at King’s and his daughter played a prominent role for the Knights volleyball team for four years. Fransen comes with years of experience coaching numerous select teams and through involvement with King’s feeder teams, has developed many of the program's top players from a young age. Mother of Shoreline Teen Recovering From Gunshot Wounds, Asks For Shooter To Come Forward

King County Major Crimes detectives pursuing leads to find out who killed Tiana Montgomery and shot Darrold Devaughn Edwards

The mother of Darrold Devaughn Edwards, a teen shot up to seven times on the 300 block of Richmond Beach Road early Wednesday in Shoreline told KIRO-TV she wants the shooter to surrender.  Tiana Montgomery, a senior at Shorecrest, was killed and Edwards, a college-bound senior at Shorewood, was seriously wounded when gunfire erupted after an argument at the Maplewood Court Apartments off Richmond Beach Road. Edwards is in serious condition at Harborview Medical Center.  "What I really want is for the person who shot Darrold and Tiana, just come forward," said Sharon Banks-Lee, the mother of Edwards, told KIRO. "We don't want him to hurt anybody else. Shorecrest, Shorewood Students Shot This Morning Identified

Editor's note: This story has been clarified after a check of a recent city neighborhood map, after a reader from Richmond Beach pointed out the shooting scene was, "not in Richmond Beach at all." UPDATE: The 17-year-old girl shot to death early this morning, has been identified as Tiana Montgomery, a senior at Shorecrest High School, sources have confirmed. The 18-year-old who was shot is Darrold Devaughn Edwards, a student at Shorewood High School, sources confirmed. Edwards is in serious condition at Harborview Medical Center, KOMO radio is reporting.  King County Major Crimes detectives are pursuing leads on the case but no arrests have been made yet, said Sgt. Occupy our kids lives. Half of the parents I know allow their kids to play virtual conflict, war and gun violence games for HOURS EACH DAY. Update: Unbeaten Shorewood Boys Soccer Team Gets 2-1 Playoff Win Over Chief Sealth

T-birds to face Bainbridge at 12 p.m. Saturday at Shoreline Stadium

The Shorewood boys soccer team continued its postseason march with a 2-1 victory over Chief Sealth at Shoreline Stadium Wednesday night in a first round state 3A playoff game. The No. 1-ranked Thunderbirds improved to 20-0 and will play for a quarterfinal matchup against fifth-ranked Bainbridge Saturday at Shoreline Stadium. The Thunderbirds (20-0) will host fifth-ranked Bainbridge in the quarterfinals on at 12 p.m. Saturday, May 19 at Shoreline Stadium. After a scoreless first half, which the Seahawks (14-3-1) matched up well with the T-birds, Shorewood continued to chip away and gained an edge in the second half. Shorewood Doubles Team Wins District Title Qualifies For State

Shorewood's No. 1 doubles team of Francesca O' Malley and Daniella Brengelmann earns second trip to state tournament

Shorewood's No. 1 doubles team of Francesca O' Malley and Daniella Brengelmann defeated the Mountlake Terrace team of Gillian Braden- Armstrong and Nicole Bouche for the 3A District 1 Doubles Championship. The win qualified O'Malley and Brengelmann for the 3A WIAA state tennis tournament for the second straight year. The match was very close with the T-Birds winning  4-6, 7-6 ( 10-8 ), 7-5. Braden- Armstrong and Bouche will play a loser out and winner to state match versus the winner from the consolation final.  The WIAA state tennis tournament starts Friday morning May 25th and continues Saturday May 26th at Kamiakin High School and the Tri-City Court Club in Kennewick, Washington.

Shorewood Doubles Team One Step From State Tournament

Francesca O'Malley and Daniella Brengelmann win twice to advance

The Shorewood doubles team of Francesca O' Malley and Daniella Brengelmann won two matches in the 3A District 1 tournament to advance to the district doubles final Wednesday at noon at Glacier Peak High School. The T-birds' due defeated a team from Lynnwood in the first match of the District 1 tournament 6-2, 6-0 and then defeated the number one seeded team from the Northwest Conference from Mount Vernon 6-4, 6-3 to advance to Wednesday's final. They will meet the team from Mountlake Terrace that they lost to last week in the Wesco 3A doubles final.  The winner advances to the WIAA state 3A tournament in Kennewick, Washington May 25th and 26th. The loser must play the winner of the consolation bracket with the winner of that match …

Ben Scheffler Hired as Shorewood Boys Basketball Coach

Scheffler replaces the retiring Marv Morris

Ben Scheffler is the new varsity boy’s basketball coach at Shorewood High School, according to the Shoreline School District. Scheffler replaces Marv Morris who retired in February.  While at Shorewood for four years, Morris was able to restore the basketball program to a competitive level in WESCO.  Morris retires, achieving 300 wins in his career. This will be Scheffler’s first high school head coaching position, but he comes to the Thunderbirds with an experienced coaching resume.  His coaching experience includes head coaching with top level local AAU programs and assistant coaching experience at three college programs, including Seattle Pacific University.  Scheffler also had a successful collegiate playing career at Seattle Pacific, …

Registration is now open for the annual Shoreline Back To School event, which provides school supplies, hair cuts, and clothing assistance to Shoreline School District families with low incomes and/or circumstances that make it challenging to adequately prepare their children for school. Shorecrest Students Will Receive iPads Next School Year

School Board votes unanimously to earmark funds for iPads for Shorecrest

As Shorecrest's MacBook laptop program comes to an end, new iPads will be introduced next year after Monday night's unanimous vote by the School Board to do so. District technology director Jim Golubich said the pilot program has worked at Shorewood and upon prompting from Superintendent Sue Walker, pointed out that the price has come down significantly. The cost of the Shorewood program, which included 1,600 iPads, was about $1 million but the total cost for 1,500 iPads, cases, software and other equipment for Shorecrest will be only $803,988 minus $58,500 after student fees are collected. That's because the new iPads will cost $100 or 20 percent less than the Shorewood iPads and software is at a 30 percent discount as prices for the …
