NW SolarFest Delivers!

NW SolarFest was a fun community event that benefited both exhibitors and the general public that attended.

As mentioned in previous blog postings, NW SolarFest is the longest running sustainable living fair in the State. Originally inspired to celebrate the installation of Solar Photo Voltaic panels on Meridian Park Elementary School the NW SolarFest has grown into a regional event that includes everything sustainable.  Shoreline Solar Project is the organization responsible for pulling the event together. Saturday July 28th at Shoreline Community College was the 9th annual NW SolarFest.

Almost without exception exhibitors at NW SolarFest said they made valuable connections and had a lot of fun. There were 111 exhibitors including a last minute addition of a Yurt that was hand crafted in Mongolia, and young goats stationed near the chickens and ducks. You can see photos posted on Flickr of the event.

The Sales person for Campbell Nelson Nissan was very pleased with the connections he made and the perspective he gained from owners of electric vehicles.

Several exhibitors commented that of all the events they attend, NW SolarFest is the most enjoyable because the fair goers are engaged and interested in what is being presented.

This year the entertainment was set up behind the Theatre. Conversation around the exhibits was easy because the noise level from the bands was not overwhelming. The sounds echoing through the campus was enough to entice people to walk through the theatre so they could lounge in the grass or sit in the beer garden while enjoying the music and fair food.

Todd of Fleetwood Espresso said "the day could not have gone better."  He is looking forward to next year.

In the Kids Zone Children were fascinated by an old-fashioned hand pump. I heard one little girl say, “You have to prime the pump to make it work.”  Children made bird feeders out of toilet paper tubes, peanut butter and birdseed. Children had fun learning about the Science of finger printing and Magic Photo offered to take pictures as part of the photo ID program.

Many fair goers and exhibitors stayed long after the fair and the after party was done to continue to relax and visit in the cool evening as though reluctant to see the day come to an end.
