Community Partners to Reduce Cost of Disposing of Solid Waste

There care many community partners that can assist business owners in reducing the cost of waste management.

Business owners looking for ways to reduce the cost of disposing of solid waste can get help from such organizations as CleanScapesWaste Management, the City of ShorelineKing County Solid Waste, Washington Department of Ecology, and EnviroStar.

Wednesday August 15th Shoreline businesses will have the opportunity to recycle Styrofoam, fluorescent light bulbs and tubes and other difficult to recycle products for free according to a  story published yesterday August 12, 2012. Shredding services will also be available.

CleanScapes staff will be on hand to advise business owners how to reduce the cost by recycling and composting. King County Solid Waste and the Washington Department of Ecology sponsor the recycling event. If you have a business in Shoreline but did not receive a flyer contact Tina Han the Environmental Programs Assistant at than@shorelinewa.gov or 206-801-2455.

Any business that is within the CleanScapes or Waste Management service area (includes Seattle) can ask for instruction in how to reduce their cost of managing solid waste. They also have posted on their respective websites information business owners can make use of. See CleanScapes Beyond Waste at Work and Waste Managements Business Recycling information.

EnviroStars also has a lot to offer businesses that deal with any amount of hazardous material. The mission of EnviroStars is "to provide assistance and incentives for smaller businesses to reduce hazardous materials and waste, in order to protect public health, municipal systems, and the environment."

Businesses that agree to go through a certification process for reducing hazardous waste are listed on the EnviroStars website. Consumers can look up businesses that have the EnviroStar certification by category, business name or location.

Thus businesses that make the effort to go through the certification process for hazardous waste reduction have the benefit of reduced costs and good public exposure.
