Big Savings Results from Conservation

Kilowatt Crackdown, a competition for reducing energy use in commercial buildings resulted in $1.8 million in cost reductions.

Combined energy savings representing more than $1.8 million in cost reductions was the outcome of the third annual Kilowatt Crackdown competition sponsored by the Building Owners Managers Association (BOMA) of King County, Puget Sound Energy, Seattle City Light, Tacoma Power, Snohomish PUD and Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance Better Bricks program.

Bentall Kennedy building management was the grand prize-winner and recipient of the "Kilowatt Cup" for outstanding accomplishments in all-around energy performance.

According to the press release fromNorthwest Energy Efficiency Alliance "A total of 110 buildings participated in the Kilowatt Crackdown, totaling over 30 million square feet of office space. More importantly, these buildings took significant steps in reducing energy use and collectively saved 2.99 averaged megawatts of electricity and more than 51,000 therms of natural gas in 2011 alone – enough to power 2,280 homes for a year. Combined energy savings represents more than $1.8 million in cost reductions."
