Give 5: Patch Employees Volunteer at Hopelink

As part of Patch's ongoing community volunteering program, Patch employees got together at Hopelink to help community kids be prepared for school.

There are so many great community organizations that lend a helping hand to others in our Patch towns, and they need a hand, too.

Patch recognizes that the people reporting on our towns are more than just employees--we're community members--and invites us all year to take some time during the work day to give back with its "Give 5" program, either individually or as a team.

This year, a group of us made our way to Hopelink's Kirkland facility to help fill backpacks for school kids in need, using the impressive amount of supplies already donated by community members.

More supplies are still needed to help Hopelink reach its goal of filling 3,000 backpacks for kids in its service area, which includes North and East King County, between the I-90 corridor to the Seattle city limits and the Snohomish County line, and from the shores of Lake Washington to the crest of the Cascades, an area of 800 square miles.

Hopelink staff told us they are doing pretty well on volunteers to help pack the bags for kids in grades K-12, but supplies are still needed, and the organization has a downloadable list on its website that you can take shopping with you.

Other local organizations are holding school supply drives as well.

Our thanks go out to all of our great friends and neighbors who get involved, and for inviting Patch to be part of your "village."
