Shorewood Hosts Redmond in a Showcase of Arms

Two powerhouse baseball teams meet up on Shorewood's turf

Shorewood's varsity baseball team hosts the Redmond Mustangs of the Kingco 4A league in a non-league showdown at Shorewood High School, Thursday, April 14, at 4 p.m. Both teams feature strong pitching staffs.

Up to 50 professional and collegiate scouts could be on hand to see the Redmond pitchers and Shorewood’s own superstars—University of Washington-commit Blake Snell, UW-signee Trevor Mitsui, and Gonzaga recruit Kevin Moriarty—who have generated much media buzz.

Shorewood moved down from 4A to 3A classification this year. In a recent Wesco 3A baseball coaches’ poll, Shorewood was projected to have the top team in 3A. The 2010 squad finished fourth in state, and Shorewood baseball coach Wyatt Tonkin believes this season’s group has state-champion potential.

Shorewood Boosters will host a “Spirit Grill” at the Shorewood baseball field located at the south end of campus. The barbecue will start at 3 p.m. for those who show up early to catch player warm up. Enjoy ball park favorites--grilled hot dogs, chips, apple slices, Cracker Jack and a beverage—all for only $5. It is anticipated the stands will be packed, so bring your own chair if you want to be guaranteed a seat. Booster gear will be available for purchase.

Shorewood fans including students, parents, staff, alumni and community members are encouraged to attend and cheer on the Shorewood Thunderbirds.
