Shorewood Bounces Back with 28-16 Win over Lynnwood

Gage Carroll had three receptions for 138 yards, and Eugene Holley ran for three touchdowns in the victory.

Before the season began, Shorewood coach Rob Petschl stressed the importance of winning conference games. On Friday night, the Thunderbirds did just that, with a 28-16 victory over Wesco opponent Lynnwood at Shoreline Stadium.

Aaron Miller only attempted four passes for Shorewood (1-1 in Wesco, 1-1 overall), but hooked up with senior Gage Carroll three times for 138 yards. However, things didn't start out smoothly for the T-Birds, as the Royals (0-2, 0-2) started the game with a 77 yard drive in three and a half minutes, capped off with a 13 yard Blake Lord touchdown pass to Darius Fountain. A successful two point conversion would make it 8-0.

From that point forward, Shorewood would take over, putting up 28 unanswered points. A 67-yard Miller to Carroll connection late in the first quarter would bring the T-Birds within two, while a 10 yard Eugene Holley touchdown run with four minutes left in the half, along with a successful two-point conversion, would give Shorewood a 14-8 lead heading into the half.

The T-Birds would continue to hold the momentum in the third quarter, starting the second half with a 69-yard drive, with a three-yard Holley touchdown run making it 21-8. Holley would punch it in again with just over two minutes left in the third to put the T-Birds up by 20. Holley would finish with 182 yards rushing on 35 carries.

The Thunderbird defense also stepped up throughout the game, forcing three turnovers, with Sam Smith picking off a Blake Lord pass deep in Shorewood territory, and both Konnor Carpenter and Anxhelos Pere recovering fumbles.

Lynnwood would tack on a touchdown late, courtesy of a four-yard Corey Hoerner run, but it would be too-little, too-late, as the T-Birds would pick up their first win of the season.

Shorewood will head on the road next Friday to take on Oak Harbor (that game can be heard on www.winnw.com) before returning to Shoreline Stadium on the 23rd to take on Shorecrest.
