Richmond Little League All-Stars Fall Short in Second Game

After opening the district tournament with a blow-out win, the Richmond Little League all-star team fell short in their second game.

The day after putting up 22 runs in a blow-out win, the Richmond Little League All-Stars faltered in the early innings and ultimately came up just short in a 11-9 loss to North Central in the second round of the District 8 12-and-under all-star tournament.

Richmond was coming off a blowout 22-1 win over the RUG All-Stars in the districts opening round, but cooled off at the plate against North Central before a furious last-inning rally.

Richmond scored six times in the sixth inning and brought the tying run to the plate, but could not overcome the sizable North Central lead. Tanner Oxnevad and Andrew Blair hit back-to-back home runs in the sixth to bolster the rally.

“We had our chances early,” Richmond Coach Eric Oxnevad said. “But [the team] couldn’t string enough hits together.”

Richmond can still take home the district title, but its road has become more difficult with the loss. The all-stars will now have to win the losers bracket and then would have to beat the winners bracket champion twice in order to take the title and advance to the state tournament.
