Shorecrest Forward Glenn Paden Signs With Oregon State Men's Soccer Team

Scots' prolific goal scorer to take his game to Corvallis

Shorecrest senior soccer player Glenn Paden was one of six players to sign a National Letter of Intent with Oregon State earlier this month.

Paden, a forward, led the Scots in scoring the last two years and will have a chance to get significant playing time right away on a Oregon State team that’s rebuilding under coach Steve Simmons, who has engineered engineered turnarounds at other schools.

"Glenn may be one of the most natural goal scorers I've seen this year," Simmons said in press release. "His play with the U-18 Sounders Academy team this year has turned the heads of many college coaches across the country. He's strong enough to hold off defenders with his back to goal and is clever enough to be a scoring threat inside and outside of the 18 yard box."

Paden, a second team all-state selection last year, is one of the most prolific scorers in the history Shorecrest boys soccer with 52 career goals. He had nine goals and four assists his freshman year in 2008; 18 goals and seven assists in 2009, the year Shorecrest won a 3A state title; and 25 goals and 15 assists last year.

Oregon State finished last out of six teams in the Pac-10 last year with a 1-9 record in the league. The team was 6-11 overall.

“They were in need of forward players,” said Shorecrest coach Drew Thompson, who said Paden has “proven he can score goals at every level so far, the youth ranks, high school. I think he’ll be continuing to score at the college level. He’s big, strong and has a nose for the goal.”
