Prep Sports Roundup: A Weekend for Championships and Playoffs

Shorecrest boys to play winner-to-state game Tues. against Glacier Peak; Shorecrest's Ian Bolstad wins 285-pound state title in wrestling and Eddie Young of Shorewood wins 3A state diving title.

A big weekend of prep sports action vaulted several Shoreline athletes to state titles and kept the title hopes alive for the Shorecrest boys and girls basketball teams. 

Boys Basketball

Shorecrest (17-7) defeated Ferndale 61-57 Friday and will next play Glacier Peak in a winner to state, loser out game on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 6 p.m. at Mountlake Terrace High School. Junior Chibuogwu finished with 24 points, Keith Shattuck chipped in 13 and Dylan Pontrello had nine to lead the Scots.

Wrestling

Shorecrest's Ian Bolstad won the state championship at 285 pounds, defeating a wrestler from University High in Spokane. The Scots' Jesus Escalona was fifth at 113 pounds. Mathew Floresca of Shorewood finished fourth at 120 pounds.

Boys Swimming

Eddie Young of Shorewood won the 3A diving championship Saturday at the King County Aquatics Center in Federal Way.

Bowling

Shorewood won the boys division II championship at Kenmore Lanes. Shorewood's Greg Lobo averaged 191 and was named most valuable player in his division.

Gymnastics

Shorewood 's team finished seventh in state at the 2A/3A championships in Tacoma.
