MLS Standout George John Has Number Retired by Shorewood

George John just completed his third season with FC Dallas.

FC Dallas' George John, a 2005 Shorewood graduate, had his soccer number retired by the school in a ceremony during halftime of the Thunderbirds boys basketball game against Oak Harbor on Thursday night.

John, also a former standout for the University of Washington (where he led the Huskies to two NCAA Tournament appearances), became the first Shorewood athlete to have his number retired. His former high school coach (and current Shorecrest coach) Drew Thompson was on hand, along with several former teammates, for the ceremony.

John was a first round draft pick by FC Dallas in 2009. Since then, John has appeared in 72 games with the squad, netting four goals.Β In August, English Premier League Team Blackburn Rovers F.C. attempted to bring John across the pond to the top level of British soccer, but the transfer fell through. John is also currently eligible to play for either the United States or Greek National Teams.
