King's Football Opens Season with 35-6 Win Over Lakeside

Billy Green threw three touchdown passes in his first start and King's used a balanced offensive attack to take down Lakeside on Friday night.

King's football head coach Jim Shapiro said before the season that he thought his team was the most balanced it had been in quite a while.

If the first game of the season is any indication, Shapiro was spot on.

Billy Green threw three touchdown passes in his first start and King's used a balanced offensive attack to dispatch Lakeside 35-6 on Friday night at King's School in Shoreline.

Green was playing his first game as the successor for former King's - and current Husky - star quarterback Thomas Vincent and did not disappoint. The junior completed 13 of 22 pass attempts for 187 yards for three touchdowns - all to Caleb Taylor.

"The first start for him was really spot on," Shapiro said of Green.

The Knights benefitted from showcasing the balanced attack that Shapiro had predicted. King's racked up 378 total yards of offense and split them almost evenly between the run (191) and the pass (187).

"A lot of different kids did a lot of great things," Shapiro said. "All in all, I was very happy with our first outing."

The Knights held just a 8-0 lead after one quarter, but exploded for three touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 29-0 halftime lead. Sophomore running back Chris Yand broke free for a 36-yard touchdown run, before Taylor caught his second touchdown pass of the night, a 27-yarder from Green. Chris Jenkins finished the first half scoring with a 30-yard interception return to put the game out of reach.

Taylor completed his hat-trick in the fourth quarter, catching a 4-yard pass from Green to round out the scoring for King's.

"You look across the board, offensively and defensively, it's no longer a one man show," Shapiro said. "It used to be the Thomas Vincent show, but now we've got some kids in the program that can carry the load."

King's will play at Coupeville next on September 9 at 7 pm.
