Boys' Track: Shoreline Schools Shine at 24th Annual Shoreline Invitational

Shorecrest, Shorewood and King's all had highlights at the biggest all-boys track meet in the Northwest.

Curtis Clauson of King’s and Sean Dever of Shorecrest led a strong showing by Shoreline-area athletes at the 24th annual Shoreline Invitational boys track and field meet on April 30th at Shoreline Stadium.

Clauson, the third-ranked javelin thrower in the state across all classes, blew away the competition with a throw of 208 feet. No other competitor was within 15 feet.

Dever put up a strong showing in the long jump in a field of tough competitors. Dever finished fifth in a star-studded field.

Dilon Baker of Shorecrest finished 4th in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.10 seconds. The 4X100 meter relay team  finished fourth, while the 800 meter team finished third. The Shorewood team finished ninth in that event. Shorecrest also finished third in the distance medley.

Sophomore pole vaulter Joe Dexter of Shorecrest finished 11th in the pole vault with a personal best height of 13 feet.

“I’m feeling successful,” Dexter said. “I think I can get higher over the next couple meets.”

83 schools and over 1,000 athletes competed in the meet, which is the largest in the Northwest and features arguably the best assembly of talent in the state. State leaders in nearly every event were featured, including stars Kasen Williams of Skyline, Alec Fellows of Edmonds-Woodway, P.J. Benedictus of Renton amongst others.

Fellows highlighted the field, shattering the meet record in the 110 meter hurdles, albeit unofficially. A clock malfunction prevented his hand-clocked time of 14.10 seconds from being an official record. Fellows also finished 6th in the 200 meter dash.

Williams and Benedictus squared off in the high jump, with each gunning for a height of 7 feet. Both fell short, but drew a large crowd as Williams took the event with a jump of 6’6. Williams also won the long jump competition.

The top 2 pole vaulters in the state in 4A staged a friendly competition in their event, as Marcus Schooley of A.C. Davis and Austin Sodorff of Woodinville were the only two competitors to clear 14 feet. Schooley took the competition with a score of 14 feet, six inches.

Other highlights included Justin Bennett of Renton took over the state lead, all classes, in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.68 seconds. Bennett also leads the 2A state in the 200 meters.
