Boy Who Died Playing Hide-and-Seek Honored at Football Game

Brookside special education student Daniel Gocus loved playing football

Daniel Gocus, a fifth-grade student at, in Lake Forest Park who died in January while playing hide-and-go-seek at his home, was honored before the Shorewood-Shorecrest football game last Friday, Sept. 23.

Gocus loved playing for the Richmond Junior football Pee-Wee White team and was a big Seahawk and Washington State Cougar fan. His No. 60 jersey was on display during a pre-game ceremony during a moment of silence.

Gocus, 10, died of asphyxiation after he went into a closet to hide and dove head first into a large box with packing peanuts and became trapped inside.
