All-Wesco Teams Announced, Shorewood Baseball, Shorecrest Soccer Lead Field

The All-Wesco teams have been announced and Shoreline-area schools have a strong showing.

The All-Wesco spring sports teams have been announced and Shoreline-area schools made a strong showing in the field.

Shorewood led the way in the baseball category, picking up five first-team and two second-team members from its second-place 3A state team. Blake Snell and Trevor Mitsui, both drafted in the MLB draft on  and  led the way on the first team, joined by teammates Henry McAree (junior pitcher, 10-1, 1.30 ERA in 2011), Dustin Hendrickson (junior designated hitter, .455 average, seven homeruns in 2011) and Connor McKeever (senior INF/P, .269 average, 21 RBI's/2.07 ERA in 23 2/3 innings). Snell was selected as both a pitcher and an outfielder.

Senior pitcher Kevin Moriarty (3-0, 1.43 ERA in 29 1/3 innings) and junior catcher Christian Heideger (.273 average, .935 fielding percentage) made up the Shorewood representatives on the second team. Shorecrest's lone representative on the first or second teams was outfielder Ted Hammond, who was named to the first team.

Shorecrest soccer led the way on the boys soccer team, placing ten people on the first or second teams, including a league-high eight on the first team. The Scots, who began the season ranked in the top-10 nationally, were anchored on the first team by midfielder and Oregon State-commit Glenn Paden. Paden was joined by defenders Sam Schober, Alex Musar and Kyle Gorney, midfielders Ian Adams and Callum Wijelath and forwards Jayne Perry and Asa Redfield. Freshman forward Henry Wingo and sophomore goalkeeper Sam Scheber made up the second-team representatives for Shorecrest.

Shorewood had six players land on the first or second team. The T-birds were represented on the first team by goalkeeper Simon Aspinall, while their stout defense made up half of the second team defenders. Defenders Eugene Holley, Ellis Miyouka and Christian Holmquist were joined on the second team by midfielder Tanner Jones and forward Hamza Haddadi.

The Shorecrest girls softball team was well-represented with its young contingent on the all-Wesco teams. Senior infielder Veronica Dalton was named to the first team, while freshman designated hitter Alyisa Gomex joined sophomores Jeanna Berg and Amanda Hartley on the second team. Shorewood was represented by senior designated hitter Madison Holllenbeck on the first team and senior infielder Kendra Holley on the second team.

Shoreline-area schools also led the contingent in girls tennis, with district champion Mackenzie Bang of Shorewood and fifth-place 3A state finisher Meera Limaye of Shorecrest taking two of the four spots in girls singles. The Shorewood doubles pair of Francesca O'Malley and Daniella Brengelmann were picked in the doubles category.
