UPDATED: Sports Roundup, Shorewood Boys Soccer Wins, Earns Trip to District Title Game

T-birds beat Sedro-Woolley, 5-0

The Shorewood boys soccer team continued its quest for the second state title in school history with a 5-0 shutout of Sedro-Woolley, Tuesday night at Shoreline Stadium. 

Both teams came out with lots of energy, said Shorewood coach Nathan Davis, but in the sixth minute Andreas Gobel scored for Shorewood, off an assist by Danny Han.

"This did not slow down Sedro, becaue they got a few shots off following this goal. Andreas got his second goal of the night in the 21st min. this time of an assist by Owusu Fordjour," Davis said.

The half ended 2-0 in favor of Shorewood.

At the half Shorewood made a few adjustments and came out knowing that 2-0 might not be enough. The second half belonged to Dawda Dibba who scored a hat trick of goals. His first was in the 64th min (Danny Han assist), followed shortly there after with his second in the 68th (Matt Petteresen assist). Dawda closed the game with his third and final goal (assist by Danny Han, his third of the night) in the 70th min.

"It was a great team effort by Shorewood, with a defense and goalie who were solid and recored their 16th shutout of the season, a midfield led by Hayk Avanesyan and Eugene Holley, and a pair of forwards who had great games," Davis said. "A special note should be made that Danny Han and Matt Owen, also recorded very solid games."

The T-birds, now 18-0, will face Glacier Peak in the 3A District 1 title game on Thursday, May 10 at 7:30 p.m. at Shoreline Stadium. 

If they win, the T-birds qualify for the state 3A tournament.

In other postseason action, the Shorewood baseball team lost 7-0 to Mount Vernon Tuesday to drop into into the consolation bracket of the 3A District 1 tournament. 

The T-birds play Ferndale at 4 p.m. today, Wednesday, May 9 at 4 p.m. at Ferndale High School in a loser-out game.

Shorecrest was eliminated from the playoffs Tuesday by Glacier Peak, 7-3.
