Shorewood's Class of 2011 Celebrates Commencement

More than 400 graduates graduate persevere to graduate at Comcast Arena in Everett on Sunday

Shorewood's accomplished class of 2011 celebrated commencement at Comcast Arena in Everett Sunday, June 12 surrounded by cheering friends and family.

More than 400 graduates filled the arena floor while family and friends looked on from the stands.

After a processional and playing of the "Star-Spangled Banner" by the Shorewood Concert Band led by David Johnson, principal Bill Dunbar spoke of the academic, musical, artistic and athletic achievements of the class.

Class advisor Paul Villanueva introduced the top 5 percent of the graduates, and Superintendent Sue Walker and School Board President David Wilson followed with short speeches.

Four students, Josh Kessler, Kelsey Jang, Sorcha Connor-Boyle and Mackey Hopen, spoke on various topics on the theme of "perseverance."

The presentation of the diplomas followed and after the playing of the alma mater, students shifted their tassels and threw their mortarboards in the air, free at last.
