Shorewood High School Modernization Gets Underway

Temporary portables will be installed beginning this week.

Pardon their dust, but work has begun at Shorewood High School, as part of a $150 million modernization of the Shoreline School District's two secondary schools, funded by a bond measure passed by Shoreline and Lake Forest Park voters in February 2010.

One of the most striking changes to the Shorewood campus will occur beginning this week, as workers prepare an area on the school's football fields, where temporary portables will be installed. Later in the summer, a portion of the 100 building along North 175th street will be demolished, and the school's old portables will be removed. Also, the school's former wood shop space will be converted for classroom use. Extensive site preparation, including the installation of new utilities, will also occur, prior to the awarding of bids for the construction of the new building in September.

"Students will return to find the construction site fenced off in the fall. Temporary parking areas will be created to offset the loss of parking elsewhere on the site," said district public information officer Craig Degginger.

The historic Ronald School building, who's use in the new school hasn't been without controversy, will be incorporated into the site by housing the band, orchestra, and drama programs.

According to Degginger, the project, headed by Bassetti Architects of Seattle, is currently on schedule.More information on the Shorewood High School modernization can be found by going to www.shorelineschools.org/modernization.
