Shoreline Preps Week in Review: Playoff Edition

A recap of all the action for Shoreline teams in the playoffs including boys and girls basketball, wrestling and swim and dive

Team of the Week:

The Shorecrest girls basketball team is having a season for the ages.

The Scots opened the week by defeating cross-town rival Shorewood in the opening round of the 3A Northwest District 1 girls basketball tournament, 54-51.

Shorecrest junior guard scored 21 of her game-high 25 points in the second half to help her team overcome  a five point lead early in the second half.

Superstar Performances:

Both freshman Matthew Floresca (112) and won their weight class to claim a regional championship and earn a trip to the state championship wrestling meet in Tacoma next week.

Three Shorewood wrestlers, Alex Lee (103), Daniel Yun (112) and Kyle Floresca (135) placed third in their weight class and senior Joel Smith (189) placed fourth and will also participate in the Mat Classic at the Tacoma Dome.

The Shorewood and Shorecrest boys swim and dive teams also had fruitful weekends, with several swimmers winning events and placing at the district swim meet in Anacortes.

Semir Kadiric scored 15 and Josh Hawkinson added 13 more to lead the T-Birds in their second round district playoff game against Shorecrest.

After both teams fell in the opening round, the stage was set for the third and final meeting of the year between the Shoreline rivals.

The win keeps Shorewood alive to face the Mavericks from Meadowdale on February 16 at Meadowdale High School. That game is scheduled to tip off at 7:30pm.

The Shorewood girls basketball rebounded from their opening-round loss to the Scots to claim a victory over Sedro-Wooley in a loser-out game on Friday, 60-41 behind 28 points from Masha Shtikel.

With the win, the T-Birds will face Lynnwood on the 15th in another loser-out playoff matchup. The winner of that game will have a chance to claim third place in the district and earn a state playoff berth.

Coach Dan Taylor's team will next face-off against Cascade Christian at 5:15pm on Tuesday in a loser-out game.

The King's boys team rebounded from a loss to Nooksack Valley on Wednesday to stay alive in their tri-district tournament with a victory over Cedar Park Christian (Bothell), 64-52 on Saturday.

The Knights got significant offensive contributions from four players as Wilson Doldier and Kyle Sawtell each scored 14, followed by the 13 of Austin Porcello and the 12 of Isaiah Jeong.

King's now must travel to Vashon Island on Tuesday for a 7pm tip in a loser-out playoff game.
