Kidd Valley Names 2012 Teacher of the Year, Mark Owen of Highland Terrace

Ninth annual Teacher of the Year contest awards Mark Owen of Highland Terrace Elementary School with grand prize honors

As part of National Teacher Appreciation month in May, Kidd Valley honored fifth-grade teacher Mark Owen of Shoreline’s Highland Terrace Elementary School as the 2012 Teacher of the Year.

Owen is the winner of its ninth annual Teacher of the Year contest. After reviewing hundreds of nominations from kindergarten through eighth grade students, who sang the praises of their favorite teachers, one exceptional teacher came out on top by earning the grand prize.

At the assembly, Owen received a $500 giant check good for a gift certificate for school supplies and a commemorative plaque, plus bragging rights among fellow teachers.

Soper and her school’s Math Olympiad team received burger vouchers good for a Kidd Valley Kidds Meal.

Another Shoreline School District teacher, Megan Woodward, a second-grade teacher at Briarcrest Elementary School, was honored with a second place award a $25 Kidd Valley gift card.
