What is the Car Seat Awareness Class?

This four hour class offers a comprehensive look at car seat safety through all stages to include rear-facing, forward-facing, booster and seat belt use. Receive basic instruction and awareness about each stage to include best practice, Washington State law, and answers to frequently asked questions.  The class offers hands on instruction and time in your personal vehicle to demonstrate how your restraint system works and proper seat installation.

How often is the class offered and where?

The Awareness class is offered at least every other month throughout the year in rotating counties of the North Region.  The class time is typically in the evenings from 4-8 pm as to accommodate those with day time working hours.  Class locations vary in each county depending on room availability and are posted a few weeks for the class.  Participants will receive an email prior to the class confirming their registration and payment have been received along with class time and location information.

Who are the classes intended for?

Anyone who transports children would benefit from this class.  That includes, but is not limited to, medical professionals, public health, DSHS transporters, foster parents, WIC, social workers, Child Protective Services, daycare & preschool providers, teachers, Fire/EMS personnel, law enforcement parents, grandparents and other caregivers.

Is there a fee?

Yes, fee’s are determined based on your job classification (see the attached registration form for fee schedule).  Why is there a fee?  This is a cost of doing business for our transport agencies. Just as you pay a fee to receive your CPR certification, we require a fee for you to receive your letter of completion which makes you eligible to transport children. Monies collected from this class pay for the instructor’s time and go toward the child passenger safety programs in your area (i.e. to purchase seats and provide support for low income families).

What is Safe Kids?
Safe Kids USA is a nationwide network of organizations working to prevent unintentional childhood injury, the leading cause of death and disability for children ages 1 to 14.  We educate families, provide safety devices to families in need and advocate for better laws to help keep children safe, healthy and out of the emergency room.

Safe Kids Snohomish, Skagit and Whatcom Counties are led by Safe Kids Washington through the Washington State Department of Health.
