Elementary Honor Choir to sing at Benaroya Hall

Shoreline School District Elementary Honor Choir, along with Cascade Youth Symphony Orchestra will make their debut at Benaroya Hall on Saturday, November 19 at 2 p.m.

The Shoreline School District Elementary Honor Choir, along with Cascade Youth Symphony Orchestra will make their debut at Benaroya Hall on Saturday, November 19 at 2 p.m.

The 250-member choir of 5th and 6th graders from all of the District's elementary schools will sing the world premiere of a commissioned musical composition by Frank Halferty, band director at Einstein Middle School. Halferty's "Folksong Trilogy for Choir and Orchestra" includes three folk songs: "Kemo Kimo," "The Leather Winged Bat" and "Old Joe Clark."

Music teachers Janet Allison of Einstein and Syre and Leann Rozema of Lake Forest Park and Shorecrest direct the District Honor Choir. For this performance at Benaroya, Tam Osborne, former Shorecrest music teacher who now serves as the District's human resources director, will conduct the choir and symphony.

The concert also features the honor choir performing selections from "The Sound of Music." The Cascade Youth Symphony Orchestra will perform "Jupiter" from “The Planets and Shorewood and Einstein orchestra director Dan Wing will conduct the “Egmont Overture.”
