Wilson Will Have Big Gap to Close by November Election

The health services professional will face incumbent Rod Dembowski in the race for King County Council District 1.

Health services professional Naomi Wilson has a long way to go in her bid to unseat King County Councilman Rod Dembowski in District 1.

In the latest primary election results released Wednesday afternoon, Dembowski’s lead edged up to 70 percent, while Wilson held steady at nearly 24 percent.

Both advance to the general election in November.

Dembowski was appointed to the council seat in February, replacing Councilman Bob Ferguson, who was elected state attorney general. The November election will determine who fills out the one month left of Ferguson’s term in 2013 and the next four-year term that starts in January.

In the race for Position 2 on the Ronald Wastewater District, Commissioner Arthur Wadekamper still trailed, with just under 30 percent of the vote, while retired travel agency owner Gretchen Atkinson retained her lead with 35 percent and business owner Ginny Scantlebury held even with 34 percent of the vote. Just 61 votes separated them.

And in the race for Position 4 in the district, Commissioner Richard Matthews looks to defend his seat in November, holding his second-place showing with 37 percent of the votes, while engineering consultant George R. Webster maintained his lead with nearly 40 percent. Shoreline Schools public information officer Craig Degginger trailed with 22 percent of the vote.

King County will continue to provide periodic vote total updates. The election must be certified by Aug. 20.
