Syre Wins Shoreline Global Reading Challenge

Team of fourth and fifth graders called the "Syre Book Worms" advances to regional challenge on March 8 at the Kingsgate Library in Kirkland

A team of Syre Elementary fourth and fifth graders, all girls, won the Shoreline School District Global Reading Challenge held March 1 at Shoreline Center. The "Syre Book Worms" coached by teacher Jennifer Altena and librarian Heidi Alexander edged teams from six other Shoreline elementary schools.

Syre advances to the regional challenge on March 8 at the Kingsgate Library in Kirkland.

The Global Reading Challenge is a cooperative effort between King County Library System and local public school districts. This is a Battle of the Books-style program that allows fourth and fifth graders across the county to work together as a team and challenge other schools to correctly answer questions about the selected books. Each year, King County Library System children's librarians select 10 titles in a wide range of reading levels especially suited to the interests of young readers.
