Steel Going Up as New Shorewood High Takes Shape

The $85 million project is expected to be completed by Sept. 2013

The construction of the new Shorewood High School, an $85 million project approved by voters in 2010,  is moving forward as the academic year comes to a close.

The steel skeleton of the three-story academic building is being erected right now in the northern part of the campus.

A series of three academic wings will be built. The first wing is what now currently under construction.

“It’s impressive on how quickly the steel goes up,” Shoreline School District spokesman Craig Degginger said. “They’ve only been working on it for (three) weeks.”

The walls of the theater are going up and to the east the walls are up for the new gymnasium behind Carter Subaru.

Bassetti Architects of Seattle led the design process for the new buildings and campus.

Bayley Construction of Mercer Island is the general contractor working on site.

The graduating seniors in the Class of 2012, will be the next to last class to finish in the old building.

The new Shorewood is scheduled to open by the start of school in Sept. 2013 to students, staff members and the community.
