Shoreline Council Preview: Black History Month and Gay Marriage

The Shoreline City Council is expected to approve a Black History Month proclamation and discuss support of marriage equality.

On Monday evening, the Shoreline City Council is expected to make an official proclamation, recognizing February as Black History Month.

The proclamation states that, "Black History Month is a time for us to remember the stories and lessons of those who helped build our nation, realizing that Black History is American History, and that it is intertwined with the founding of America."

The council will also vote on a resolution, requested by Mayor McGlashan, which will declare Shoreline City Council support for marriage equality in Washington State.

More specifically, the resolution calls on the legislature to pass Senate Bill 6239.

The council will also have a discussion about whether or not to proceed with the Town Center development code work plan.

The plan, unanimously adopted in July 2010, resulted in improved and coordinated design standards to make commercial areas within the Town Center subarea more pedestrian- friendly and viable as places to shop and live.
