Council gives OK for human services money and discusses Echo Lake traffic issues

The Shoreline City Council unanimously passed a motion Monday night to authorize city manager Julie Underwood to move forward and implement the city's funding plan for human services.

Shoreline partners with human service agencies to meet the needs of its residents by providing financial support using both local revenues and federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds, according to city documents.

Receipients in the city include many programs and non-profits including the largest, The Center for Human Services, which has two locations in Shoreline.

The city’s biennial Human Services Allocation Plan lays out the allocations to the various agencies. Underwood's Council-approved recommendation for 2013 includes allocation of $383,003 of City General Funds and $290,000 of CDBG funds for human services. The CDBG funds are subject to final federal appropriations and will be allocated in 2013 and 2014.

Many changes to improve traffic patterns and ease of use for residents are in

the works.

The Council heard from Don Dudley, a resident of The Blakely on 192nd St, who has been involved in meetings with the city. Dudley said he was pleased with the city staff's efforts to find a solution to traffic issues despite some previous disagreements and challenges during Aurora corridor construction.
