UPDATE: Richmond Beach Saltwater Park Now Open, Arson Believed to be Cause of Fire

The fire came close to a restroom at the beach and a picnic shelter

Update:

Richmond Beach Saltwater Park is now fully open for regular park use. A small portion of the beach area is fenced off as Shoreline Fire continues to monitor hot spots.

The fire on Monday, Aug. 27 at Richmond Beach Saltwater Park burned approximately two acres of scotch broom and blackberry with no damage to any park facilities. The majority of the burned area was on BNSF property with less than an acre of park property affected. The fire is being investigated as an arson by fire investigators. The fire came close to the restroom on the beach and the picnic shelter at the beach with no damage.

Richmond Beach Saltwater Park will be closed until further notice while the Shoreline Fire Department completes its investigation into the cause of a brush fire Monday evening.

The fire broke out around 7:30 p.m. last night and burned approximately two acres of brush near the railroad track overpass bridge. The fire was brought under control by 9:30 p.m. All available Shoreline Fire Department crews were at the seen and neighboring fire departments assisted with other emergency calls throughout the evening. There was no damage to any structures or the bridge.
