Rep. Ruth Kagi Honored With Superhero Cape from Moms Group

MomsRising aims to remind legislators, two democrats and two republicans of their "inner superhero" when it comes to funding for children's issues

Last year, Washington State received an incredible opportunity with a Race to The Top Challenge Grant to improve child care and fund early learning programs. This week, Legislators will decide how they'll use that investment to improve childcare centers and provide access to quality preschool to everyone in the state.

Local MomsRising members know Legislators will fight to keep Washington families working with the opportunities the Challenge Grant provides. They want to applaud Washington’s Legislative heroes for making sure working parents can make ends meet. Capes were delivered to Rep. Ruth Kagi (D-Lake Forest Park), Ross Hunter (D-Medina), Gary Alexander (R-Olympia), and Joe Zarelli (R-Ridgefield).

“Sometimes we need a hero to stand up for the right thing, and these Legislators are up to the challenge,” said Sarah Francis, campaign director at MomsRising. “We brought them capes to remind our leaders of their inner superhero and that they can be champions for families when we need it most.”

Child poverty is skyrocketing in Washington State right now: 16.2% of all Washington kids are living in poverty. Key programs that will make a big difference for our littlest residents, like quality, affordable child care and quality education programs are vital to this state’s future.
