Parking Fines Could Double in Lake Forest Park

Increased fines are one of the items on the Lake Forest Park City Council's work session Monday, June 24.

That parking ticket could cost you more than double what it used to, if the Lake Forest Park City Council approves a recommended increase.

Under the revised Municipal Code, the fine for a parking infraction would be $45, up from the current $20.

If the fee isn’t paid within 15 days, the violator would have to pay $20 more; failure to pay within 30 days would mean another $20.

The existing $25 fee for failing to appear or respond remains in the code.

Do you think an increased fee is a good idea? Tell us why or why not in the comments.

The increase is being recommended because the city’s current fee “is not consistent with regional parking fees and has not been updated to reflect actual cost associated with enforcing and processing notice of infractions within the city,” according to a council briefing document.

The higher fee also provides “an increased financial disincentive to violate the parking rules,” the document says.

In 2012, there were 91 parking violations in the city; in 2011, there were 110, according to the city.

Also on Monday’s agenda:

  • A resolution expressing concern over the possible expansion of nearby Paine Field in Everett to include commercial aviation.
  • A proposal to restructure the Lake Forest Park Police Department by converting an open civilian police manager position into a commissioned police captain job.

The council’s work session is at 6:30 p.m. at Lake Forest Park City Hall, 17425 Ballinger Way N.E.
