Lake Forest Park City Council to Discuss Metro Cuts, Hold Hearing on Veterans Levy

The Lake Forest Park City Council will meet Thursday, July 14 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss proposed resolutions regarding King County Veterans, Weekend Animal Control Services and King County Metro changes.

The Lake Forest Park City Council will be meeting tonight at Lake Forest Park City Hall and will discuss the Metro congestion fee, hold a hearing on the Veterans and Human Services Levy and take action on several items.

During the Study Session the Council will examine the proposed changes from King County Council for Metro. Currently, the proposal has designated a number of routes to be changed, some cancelled all together, others restricted. About 17 percent of the whole Metro system would be eliminated affecting as much as 80 percent of riders. Current routes scheduled for limitation in Lake Forest Park include 347, 342, 348 and 331. Route 308 is proposed to be eliminated.

Executive Dow Constantine's proposal for the King County Council recommended adding an annual congestion charge of $20 for each vehicle instead of limiting the Metro system. Kirkland City Council is in support of this proposal and it will be discussed at the Lake Forest Park City Council meeting for consideration.

In an effort to allow safe debris removal various screens in McAleer Creek, a bypass has been designed using state funding over the past year. The bypass will limit the amount of overflow, directing the water to the bypass pipe instead of over the edges. Details of the construction planned for summer or fall of 2011 will be discussed in the Study Session with the Council.
