UDPATE: Heavy Rains Causing Flooding in Lake Forest Park

The southbound HOV land on Bothell Way N.E. and the southwest entrance to Lake Forest Park Towne Centre from Bothell Way N.E. are blocked because of flooding from Lyon Creek, as of 1:30 p.m. Monday afternoon.

Cars are passing through some of the water on the roadway headed toward Brookside Blvd. N.E.

No serious  damage has occurred, but city officials and police are monitoring the situation.

"We're monitoring everything that's going on and watching the basin," said Lake Forest Park Public Works Director Frank Zenk. "How long it will last depends on Mother Nature at this point."

The mall ownership, Madison Marquette, has sandbags but had not put them out yet as of 2 p.m.

Zenk said the city will keep an eye on the flooding for the rest of the day and a few hours after the rains slow—if they do—since the watershed north in Snohomish County feeds Lyon and MacAleer Creeks before they flow into Lake Washington.

As of 10:50 a.m. this morning, heavy rains in the area caused localized flooding in Lake Forest Park.

Water is over the roadway at N.E. 170th at Highway 522. Hamlin Road and Brookside Boulevard at the intersection of Hwy 522 were closed briefly due to water over the roadway and are now open again.

Up to two inches of rain is expected to fall in the Seattle area today.

City Public Works officials continue to monitor the situation.
