Goss Holds Early Fundraising Edge Over Thompson in LFP Mayor's Race

Goss endorsed by political committee LFP Government Watch

The initial Public Disclosure Commission fundraising reports in the race for Lake Forest Park mayor show former councilwoman Mary Jane Goss with about a $1,000 edge over current deputy mayor Dwight Thompson.

Goss is reporting $6,316.12 raised, but has yet to spend any of it, according to PDC filings.

Her largest donors so far are her neighbors Richard and Margaret Marshall of Lake Forest Park, who gave $800 each.

Thompson has raised $5,314.49 so far and spent $1,500 on campaign consultants TR Strategies of Olympia, while claiming $6,200 in debt.

Thompson’s largest reported donation so far is $300 from 32nd District Rep. Ruth Kagi, a Lake Forest Park democrat.

The third candidate in the Aug. 16 primary race, Stan Lippmann, has not reported any money raised.

Thompson has the endorsements of Kagi, King County Councilmember Bob Ferguson and fellow Councilmember Sandy Koppenol.

Goss has secured the endorsements of the Lake Forest Park Government Watch, the 32nd District Democrats, the King County Democratic Central Committee and the Seattle-King County Association of Realtors.

LFP Government Watch, is a registered political committee and nonpartisan group of Lake Forest Park citizens, both republicans and democrats, who are concerned about city spending and priorities. The organization includes individuals who organized to defeat Proposition 1, the city tax levy, last August.

So far Lake Forest Park Government Watch has raised $4,457.39 and spent $441.47, according to PDC filings.

Goss served as treasurer of the No LFP Levy Lid Life Committee while Stephen Plusch, also a former council member in Lake Forest Park, served as its chair. Plusch also chairs LFP Government Watch.

The endorsement of Goss by LFP Government Watch came after an extensive interview with Goss, according to a committee press release.

LFP Government Watch contacted all candidates for an interview but Goss was the only one to respond, Margaret Marshall, who is also a member of LFP Government Watch said.
