VIDEO: Gonzales Pleads Not Guility to Rape, Burglary Charges

Man accused of breaking into a Echo Lake apartment and raping 12-year-old girl he did not know is arraigned in King County Superior Court Thursday

Jesse Ryan Gonzales, charged with breaking into a Shoreline apartment and raping a 12-year-old girl on Dec. 4, pleaded not guility to first degree rape and burlgary with sexual motivation on Thursday, Dec. 22.

A handcuffed Gonzales, dressed in red jail garb, stood by as his attorney Gary Davis entered the pleas during the arraignment in the courtroom of Judge Ronald Kessler in King County Superior Court.

Gonzales, 37, of Shoreline, was arrested in the early morning hours of Dec. 7 in the attack on the girl by Shoreline Police after a traffic stop on Meridan Ave. N.

He slipped into the apartment, apparently through an unlocked door after the girl's uncle left and before her mother came home from work, in the early morning hours of Dec. 4, and sexually assaulted the girl.

Police tied Gonzales to the alleged crime by a palm print he left on a glass dresser in the victim's bedroom. Advances in print technology helped the King County Sheriff's detectives identify him as the suspect.

While being arrested he told police he had consumed 12 beers and a synthetic drug and admitted to the rape, according to a King County detective's statement.

He is being lodged in the King County Jail on $1 million bail. He faces 25 years to life in prison. 

Gonzales has a long criminal history dating back to the early 1990s, which includes five felony and 13 misdemeanor convictions but no previous sex crimes.

His next court appearance is in early February.
