Mary Jane Goss received 111 votes more than Dwight Thompson in Lake Forest Park mayoral race

Mary Jane Goss and Dwight Thompson will be in a hotly contested race for Lake Forest Park mayor this fall, if the primary results are any indication.

Goss, a managing real estate broker and former LFP Councilwoman, received 49.64 percent of the vote to 46.78 percent for Dwight Thompson, the city's current deputy mayor. He is also an Army Reservist and small businessman.Β

Both earned the right to face off in the Nov. 8 general election. Stan Lippmann, the third candidate, received only 2.94 percent of the vote and was eliminated from contention.

Goss, who led by 111 votes in the Aug. 16 primary, is running on platform to control city spending and cut back city government saying that's what residents want, based on last August's 78 percent no vote on Proposition 1 tax levy lid lift.

Thompson said the Council has gotten the message and cut the city's latest budget in addition to cuts to the previous budget. He said he has a vision for the city that includes developing the Lake Forest Park Towne Centre and the Gateway areas.

In the other contested primary race in the area, Shoreline firefighter/paramedic Eric Adman led the race for King County Fire Protection District No. 16 Commissioner Position 1 with 55.32 percent of the vote. Don Ellis, the incumbent, was second with 34.12 percent of the vote. Stan Isenhath was eliminated from the November ballot after receiving only 9.81 percent of the vote.Β

Voters also supported the Veterans and Human Services Levy in King County, which passed by a 69 percent to 31 percent margin.Β
