King County Results: Parks Levy Passing, Constantine Leads Executive Race

King County Elections released the first round of results from the Aug. 6 primary at 8:15 p.m. with about 225,000 ballots counted.

King County voters were handily approving a levy to pay for parks by a margin of 69 percent to 31 percent, according to early primary election results released by King County at about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Incumbent Dow Constantine has a commanding lead in the primary race for county executive, with 76 percent of the votes in the first round of results. Alan E. Lobdell, meanwhile, is at 12 percent, followed by Everett A. Stewart with 7.5 percent of counted ballots.

These totals include 222,999 votes in the executive race and 236,602 votes for the parks levy. As of 8 p.m., county elections said 251,976 people —or about 21 percent of registered and active voters in King County—had returned their ballots. The Secretary of State had predicted overall turnout of 30 percent statewide for the primary.

The parks levy is a proposed six-year lid lift that would replace two expiring 2007 levy lid lifts. It amounts to 18 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value, 8 cents more than the previous two levies of 5 cents each.

Funds from the levy would be used to maintain the county's parks and trails and to expand the regional trail system. (More info on the levy can be found here.)

The measure requires a simple majority to pass.

King County will issue its next round of election results at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Check back with Patch for updated totals at that time.
