At about midnight Thursday night, two Washington State Troopers fired at a man who led them on a chase from Lynnwood to Shoreline, at one point ramming his car into a patrol car. The man was apprehended and taken to Harborview with a gunshot wound to the leg.

At about 11:50 p.m. one of the troopers, on patrol on SR-99 near 196th Street in Lynnwood, attempted to stop an early model dark colored Mazda Passenger Car for a lane travel violation.

The driver did not stop and the trooper pursued him south to 175th street, then west on 175th a few blocks where it ended near two homes at the end of 175th. WSP officials said the speeds reached during the pursuit were not known this morning.

One of the troopers vehicles was rammed by the suspect vehicle at some point--those details remain under investigation. Β A second trooper (in his own patrol car) had joined the initial pursuing trooper.

Following the pursuit both troopers fired their weapons at the suspect, and the reason for the shooting is under investigation. Β The suspect, who was the only occupant of the car, then ran on foot a short distance before being taken into custody.

The suspect was taken to Harborview Medical Center with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg.

WSP said drugs or alcohol may be factor in the incident and remains under investigation.

The troopers involved in the shooting will be on administrative re-assignment as standard procedure.Β  The officers were not injured and no other people were injured in the incident.

The suspect has not been identified at this time, WSP said.
