The Seattle Times does the same thing! Just last week there was a story about an 'albino' deer. I asked them, Why use the term 'albino' for this deer when they don't call the other deer 'brown' deer? They just call them 'deer'. And besides, everyone knows 'albino' is just a code word for 'white'. Racism - It's where you look for it.

When race is included in the incident report it's included in the police blotter. Descriptions such as "black female" and "white male" are not uncommon.

The Rodeway and Motel 6....drugs and prositutes....get them out of our city! Keep the pressure on...it is just ridiculous!

The police blotter is selection of incidents and as Gennette said above, a person's race is sometimes included in the police records that are sent to Patch. Descriptions aren't intended to be and shouldn't be taken as the be-all and end-all of who a person is but is helpful in identifying someone for police purposes or if you are writing about what the police do. When police hand out a traffic ticket, for example, there is a space for the race of the person and the officer often does fill that out. Unless they ask you what you identify as what they put down is probably an educated guess unless you want to discuss your lineage with them.
