Shoreline Man Dies While Swimming in Winthrop

The Wenatchee World reported that Charles J. Covello of Shoreline went into the lake for a short swim just before 4 p.m. Saturday when an onlooker saw him struggle and go underwater.

A 76-year-old Shoreline man died Saturday after being pulled from Pearrygin Lake near Winthrop, WA, according to the Wenatchee World newspaper.

Man was identified as Charles J. Covello, according to the Wenatchee World. The newspaper reported that Covello went into the lake for a short swim just before 4 p.m. Saturday when an onlooker saw him struggle and go underwater. 

Covello was retrieved by a diver and a snorkeler who were at the lake, and two EMTs on vacation tried CPR, but they could not revive him, the Okanogan Sheriff told the newspaper.
