Shoreline Criminal Texts The Cop: Some Cases Are Just Too Easy

Just after midnight on March 14, an Edmonds Police detective received a text message on his department-issued cell phone from an unknown subject asking, “Who is this?”

Not recognizing the telephone number, the detective sent a simple reply requesting the sender's identity.

Throughout the next two days, said Edmonds Police Sgt. Mike Blackburn, the as-yet unknown individual continued to exchange somewhat casual text messages with the detective, apparently unaware of who he was sending them to.

For some reason, on the third day, the person's demeanor changed when he sent a terse message to the police detective that demanded, “Come get me, (expletive omitted)!” 

This piqued the detective’s interest, so he researched the telephone number and determined it was assigned to a subject well known to Edmonds Police. In fact, the 29-year-old Shoreline man had two outstanding felony warrants for his arrest totaling $10,000 in bail money.

The detective obliged the man and went to get him.

The criminal’s texting has now been placed on hold while he spends time at the Snohomish County Jail.
