Shoreline Couple Escapes Truck Fire, South of Tumwater

Incident occurred Sunday evening

The State Patrol reports that a Shoreline couple traveling to Longview for business managed to escape safely, after their 1989 Ford pickup caught fire just south of Tumwater, Sunday evening.

Washington State troopers received several reports about 6:45 p.m. of a pickup truck fire just south of 93rd Avenue on southbound Interstate 5. A trooper arrived at 6:49 p.m. and found the couple was accounted for. Tumwater Fire Department arrived shortly after and was able to save the utility trailer they were towing.

The couple stated they knew something was wrong when smoke started coming into the cab through the vents. They immediately pulled to the shoulder, grabbed what they could and ran from the vehicle as it was engulfing with flames. The vehicle is a total loss, but fortunately no one was injured.
