UPDATE: Human Remains Found Near Bastyr University Are of Adult Male

The Medical Examiner’s office states that the remains are those of a male.

UPDATE, Oct. 5, 6:40 p.m.: The humans remains found in the forest at Saint Edward State Park Thursday near the Bastyr University campus just outside Kirkland were the skull and bones of an adult male, says King County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Sgt. Kathleen Larson. According to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office, the remains had been there for more than a year. “We’re still in the beginning stages of the investigation, but at this point there is no indication of foul play,” said Larson. Investigators were on the scene Thursday searching for evidence that could yield the individual’s DNA, but broke just before dark and plan to return Saturday morning.

Original story:

On Thursday, students of Bastyr University were walking the wooded trails near campus when they came across some bones that they thought possibly belonged to a human.

King County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Detectives responded and confirmed that in fact the bones to include a skull were indeed human.

The remains were transported to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office for examination and identification. The Medical Examiner’s office states that the remains are those of a male.

King County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes detectives will be at the scene near N.E. 143rd and Juanita Drive N.E. in Kenmore this afternoon conducting an evidence search.

“What we’re doing right now is setting up our sifting stations and looking for more evidence. ID will be made through DNA,” Sgt. Kathleen Larson told The Seattle Times Friday.

Bastyr University is adjacent and virtually surrounded by Saint Edward State Park, a 316-acre former Catholic seminary on Lake Washington .

Oh gosh Jeff, I forgot about that, we have a post on it here too --the old seminary and all are spooky enough!

Any chance Bastyr students use a cadaver lab, and one got "lost"?
Greg Johnston (Editor) October 6, 2012 at 01:26 pm
There is in fact a Haunted Trails event at Bastyr coming up this month, and I think Jeff was just pointing out the coincidence -- which is spooky indeed. That does not indicate any disrespect. -Greg

Ron, you may want to look into the irony of your own comment. Jeff and Greg have stated facts, only you are turning them into something disrespectful. Furthermore by threatening to forward the comments on to the family (which in an of itself is an amazing feat given that the victim has not been identified yet - are you psychic?) is disrespectful. Why would you want to turn an innocent comment into something outrageous for the family to read?
Sara C October 6, 2012 at 04:41 pm
Ron, your threats of tattling really help no one but whom? Their comments were obviously not out of disrespect. As someone who has lost someone (rather tragically) I understand sensitivity toward the families of lost ones; however, the comments are in no way disrespectful.

Both the House and the Senate must pass a bill within the same session to move on for the Governor'sRead More signature. After each Session/Special Session, all other bills are returned to the House of Origin and is technically in play, though not necessarily viable, until the next Legislature - in this case, the 64th Legislature in 2015-2016.

As an elementary student, the Pledge of Allegiance was part of the daily classroom routine. InRead More middle school, I only recited the pledge during all-school assemblies. I don't believe I was ever asked to recite it in high school. I am surprised to hear than middle school-aged students couldn't define those key words from the Pledge of Allegiance. Even if they hadn't been required to recite it in class, surely those words must have been covered on spelling tests (which, in my education, were also definition tests).
