Edmonds Man Hit and Killed by Semi on I-5 at Mountlake Terrace

Witnesses told police it appears the man intentionally ran into traffic after pulling over in the southbound lanes of I-5 near 220th SW in Mountlake Terrace.

A 33-year-old Edmonds man was killed Friday morning after pulling his vehicle over on the southbound shoulder of Interstate 5 in Mountlake Terrace and running into traffic.

He was hit immediately by a semi truck, said spokeswomen for both Snohomish County Fire District 1 and the Washington State Patrol.

“Witnesses say it appears he intentionally ran into traffic,” said State Trooper Julie Judson. “There was no way the semi driver could stop in time.”

The incident occurred at about 7:25 a.m. on I-5 just south of 220th Street Southwest. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Judson said the man’s motivation was not yet known, and no note had been found in his car.

The incident temporarily closed all southbound lanes of the freeway and is under investigation by the State Patrol.
