“We’ve had 22 thefts from cars since the beginning of the year,” said Director of Safety and Security Robin Blacksmith. “We’ve not had anything like this since I’ve been here.”

Most of the thefts have been “smash-and-grab” incidents. School officials are urging students and anyone parking in lots on campus to not leave anything of value visible in their cars.

“We’ve had break-ins for the change in the ashtray and a sweater,” said Blacksmith.

The lower Greenwood lot, a mostly dirt lot that is visually removed from main-campus lots, will be closed at 5:30 p.m. through spring quarter. If a vehicle becomes locked in past 5:30 p.m., the driver can call the on-duty security officer at 206-235-5860.
