Vote YES ON I-522. Here’s why!

Don’t be misled by Monsanto and other mega corporations behind the NO on I-522 campaign.   With over 21 million dollars at their disposal, the NO campaign has besieged all media outlets with non-stop ads to garner a NO vote on I-522, regardless of the actual facts.   All those million dollar ads bombard a viewer or listener with so many blatant untruths and deceptions that it is hard to know what to believe.

Contrary to former attorney general, Ken Eikenberry’s NO ad claims, the YesOn522 is mostly funded by in-state dollars from many small donations by Washington State citizens and some from out-of-state companies such as Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps.  The YesOn522 campaign has full disclosure on their website.  Funding for the NO campaign comes from 5 major out-of-state trans-national corporations: Monsanto, Bayer Crop Science, DuPont, DOW Chemical, and BASF.   The Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) contributed the most as a PAC for other corporations.   Washington State Attorney General, Bob Ferguson, filed legal action against the GMA for essentially laundering several million dollars for out-of-state corporations attempting to hide their involvement.  The NO campaign wants to stop your right to know what is in your food, regardless of their TV spokespersons assurances that they are just caring individuals looking out for the farmer or consumer.

64 industrialized countries have GMO labeling laws, but numerous trans-national corporations are attempting to mislead the citizens in this state on simple labeling to provide worthwhile information for consumers.   If I-522 passes, Washington State would join Maine and Connecticut in labeling GMO food products. States often pass legislation first and the federal government then follows suit.   Labels help provide information and, so, informed consent.  It will help the fishing industry, our agricultural industry, and the everyday consumer.
