Obituary: Bruce W. Adams, 1933-2013

Bruce, a lifelong Shoreline-area resident and community volunteer, passed away May 26, 2013. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date, and a separate announcement will follow.

Bruce was born to Marion "Pat" and Marguerite "Peggy" Adams in Seattle on September 15, 1933, and grew up in what is now Shoreline, raising his own family just up the street from his childhood home. As a grandson of Seattle bandleader Albert P. Adams, he developed a great love of music. He attended Ronald and Richmond Beach schools, and following his graduation from Lincoln High in 1951, he spent most of his working life as a warehouseman and truck driver. He married Janet Granstrom in 1957, and together they raised three daughters. They shared a love of animals, gardening, and antiques, and following his retirement they often took long drives to explore the back roads of Puget Sound. Along with music, his passions were for people, history and rhododendrons. Bruce loved to collect and tell stories, and wherever he went, he brightened people's lives with his friendliness, and his encyclopedic knowledge of the area and plants. He and his wife were charter members of the Shoreline Historical Museum, and helped start that organization in 1975. After retiring, Bruce continued his work at the Museum, and could be found helping there every day.

Janet preceded him in death in 2000, and he is survived by his dog Tribble and his three daughters and their partners: Jeanice and Frank Rexhausen, Candace Hume and Timothy A. Ghezzi, and Susan and Coleen Delaney. He is also survived by his grandsons Patrick and Frank Hume, of whom he was very proud, as well as his sister Diane Johnson and her family, and his Museum "daughter," Vicki Stiles. A celebration of his life will be held later, and a separate announcement will be made.

Contributions may be made in Bruce's name to the Shoreline Historical Museum, PO Box 55594, Shoreline, WA 98155, or atΒ www.shorelinehistoricalmuseum.org.
